What is Bioidentical Hormone Therapy?

The term “bioidentical hormone therapy,” or natural hormone therapy, is often used to describe a medication containing estrogen, progesterone, or other hormones that are chemically exact duplicates of hormones in the body. This natural hormone therapy is used to treat a patient’s hormonal imbalance, usually due to menopause. The bioidentical hormones are not synthetic hormones. Bioidentical hormones include FDA-approved prescription options, compounded pharmacy options and over-the-counter options. Several examples from each category are listed below.
